Jamalpur is a district located in Dhaka Division in Bangladesh. The district came into existence on 1869 and is spread over an area of 53.28 km². Jamalpur is placed on the banks of Brahmaputra River at the coordinates of 24.92° N 89.96° E. Jamalpur is situated about 187 km northwest of national capital Dhaka.

Jamalpur is famous for rice, sugarcane, jute, tobacco, mustard production and market centre. Also Jamalpur exports tobacco, mustard seed, peanut, leather, handicraft and betel leaf to foreign countries.

Jamalpur is home to two top grade colleges, one general hospital, 6 sub district health centres and 39 family welfare centers. Jamalpur hosts several embroidered quilt production centres also.
