Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh positioned at an altitude of 4 meters above the sea level. It was earlier known as ‘Jahangirnagar’ during the Mughal era. Dhaka is the largest city in the country, referred as “Rickshaw Capital of the World” because more than 400,000 cycle-rickshaws run on the roads of Dhaka.

Dhaka is placed on the banks of River Buriganga located between 23°42′0″ N latitude and 90°22′30″ E longitude. Dhaka City has an area of 360 square kilometers and is surrounded by Gazipur on the north, Munshiganj in the south, Manikganj towards west and Narayanganj in the east.

Dhaka is one of the highly emerging cities in the world in all the major sectors like real estate, education, industrialization, finance, infrastructure, tourism and shopping. History of Dhaka:

There are several theories about the origin of Dhaka name. One theory states that Dhaka draws its name from the larger presence of ‘Dhak Tree’ in Dhaka and another say that Dhaka derives its name from the Goddess ‘Dhakeshwari’.

Dhaka was previously known as ‘Jahangirnagar’ founded by Mughals during 17th century. Mughal Empire ruled Dhaka for a long time and British East India Company was conquered Dhaka in 1765, ruled up to India’s Independence.

Bengali is the official language as well as the widely spoken language in Dhaka and the natives of Dhaka speak Urdu, Hindi and English along with Bengali. Ramna Park:

Ramna Park is located in the centre of Dhaka City. The park is spread over an area of 68.50 acres home to perennials, 34 species therapeutic plants, shrubs and more than 42 species of forestry.

 

Ahsan Manzil:

Ahsan Manzil is placed on the banks of River Buriganga and was previously the house of Nawab Family. The palace was constructed with Indo-Saracenic Revival archetypical style in the year 1869.

 

Baitul Mukarram:

Baitul Mukarram is considered as tenth biggest mosque in the globe. This is the national mosque of the country constructed in the year 1968. The mosque occupies an area of 26,517 square feet, showcases the traditional Islamic architecture style.

 

Baldha Garden:

Baldha Garden is spread over an area of 3.15 acres situated in Wari region. This garden was established by Narenda Narayan Chawdhury and the garden houses more than 672 species of plants.
