Ancud is a city situated in the province and island of Chile, Chiloe at 41°52′ S 73°50′ W. It belongs to Chiloé Archipelago covering an area of 1,252.4 sq. km. and is situated around 80 km away from Castro city.

History of Ancud:

Ancud was founded to serve the capital of Chiloé Archipelago in 1768 with name ‘San Carlos de Chiloe’ and served until 1982 when it was replaced by Castro which is the largest city of the archipelago ahead Ancud.

Museo Regional de Ancud:

Museo Regional de Ancud is situated opposite of Plaza de Armas exhibiting artifacts and photographs related to the history and culture of Ancud. Tourists can also spot a blue whale skeleton and big ship. The entrance fee is 600 Chilean Pesos.

 

Plaza de Armas:

Plaza de Armas is the main square of Ancud boasting Town Hall and a typical fire brigade monument is situated in front of the Town Hall.
