History of Ancud:

Ancud was founded to serve the capital of Chiloé Archipelago in 1768 with name ‘San Carlos de Chiloe’ and served until 1982 when it was replaced by Castro which is the largest city of the archipelago ahead Ancud.

Located next to Hosteria Ancud, Fuerte San Antonio is a fortress built during the Spanish colonial era. Its well preserved walls and cannons are the highlights and it also offers a nice view of the town and port. There is a beach in the proximity of the fortress that is great to watch at sunset.

Museo Regional de Ancud:

Museo Regional de Ancud is situated opposite of Plaza de Armas exhibiting artifacts and photographs related to the history and culture of Ancud. Tourists can also spot a blue whale skeleton and big ship. The entrance fee is 600 Chilean Pesos.
