Talas is one of the eight provinces of the mountainous CIS country of Kyrgyzstan or the Kyrgyz Republic.  Talas is a land locked town located to the North West of Kyrgyzstan in the River valley of Talas flowing in between the two huge mountains. Talas is known as the birth place of the Kyrgyz legendry hero Manas and an administrative town of Talas province.

 

The province of Talas is around 11375 Sq. Km and is surrounded by the province of Jambyl of the country of Kazakhstan towards North and West and the country of Uzbekistan in the Southwest with the province of Chuy in the East and the province of Jalal-Abad in the South.

 

 

History of Talas in Kyrgyzstan:

 

The history of Talas revolves around the legendry hero Manas and the mausoleum or the Ghumbez where the hero was buried, built around in 14th century.  Talas was the battle ground in 750s, where the rampaging Chinese army met their match in the combined forces of Arabs, Kyrgyz and Tibetan forces and got defeated in their quest for enlarging the Chinese empire in the Central Asia the outcome of the Chinese defeat helped in the knowledge of spreading the paper making craft and silk weaving to the Europeans and also the gateway in spreading of Islam religion in the central Asian countries.  Talas was under the control of the Soviets in the late 19th century to the end of 20th century.

There is no train connectivity in the mountainous town and by flight the nearest airport to reach Talas is at Manas near Biskek.
