Semarang is a city and the capital of central Java province in Indonesia located in Java Island facing the Java Sea. Semarang covers an area of 373.70 sq Kms and the economy of city depends on industrial parks and manufacturing factories and there are number of small scale factories located in the city.

History of Semarang:

Semarang was established by Sultanate of Demak, named as Kyai Pandan Arang and started the Islamic School in the region. In the year 1678, Sunan Amangkurat II donates Semarang to the Dutch East India Company and Dutch colonial was established during the year 1682 and various developments started in this region. Later in 1920’s, the city became the hub for leftist and nationalist activities and during the World War II the city was captured by the Japanese army and in the year 1945, it became the capital of central Java.

 

Tourism in Semarang:

Semarang is one of the busiest cities in Indonesia, as there are number of small scale industries and factories but for tourists, there are few interesting places to visit in and around the city. Gereja Blenduk is a church constructed in the year 1753 accolade as the ancient and oldest church in the city and has decorative organ, very rare in Indonesia.

This is one of the biggest ground in the city, where the local people come to spend their nights with family and friends.

 

Bukit Sari:
