Santiago is a district and the capital of Veraguas province in Panama Country, is situated on the banks of Pan America Highway and comprises of 10 townships and economy of the district depends on trade, agriculture, livestock and banking and there are many modern and ancient buildings in the district. Santiago is surrounded by San Francisco, La Mesa District, Montijo District, Ocu, El Poste, Aguadulce and Pese is located at the distance of 252 kilometers from the capital of Panama country, Panama City. Coordinates of Santiago are 33°25′34 S, 70°33′59 W.

 

History of Santiago:

Santiago was established in the 17th century by Montijo and Santa Fe populace and formed the province of Veragual. From the year 1751, the region was ruled by the military government and in the year 1821 Panama proclaimed the independence from Spanish rule.

Santiago is considered as one of the oldest towns in the country but there are only few places like church, museums to visit in the town and major attractions are located at the distance of 50 to 100 kilometers from middle of town which offers some of the stunning view of the surrounding.
