Pulau Perhentian Islands are group of islands located approx 19 kms from north east coast of Malaysia in the state of Terengannu known for beautiful islands and beaches. The islands have white sandy beaches and are rich in coral and marine life. The islands have many water creatures like jelly fish, starfish, sea turtles, reel fish and sharks. Any kind of fishing, collecting corals and littering are strictly prohibited in the islands. Pulau Perhentian Islands coordinates with 5.55’ degree North Latitude and 102.44’ degree East Longitude.

 

Pulau Perhentian Islands History:

The word Perhentian is derived from Malay word which means stopping point as the islands was the main gateways for traders between Bangkok and Malaysia. Though the islands were thinly populated by local fishermen communities, off late it has become a major tourist attraction in this part of the country.

Ferries and boats are the only modes of transport available to reach the islands which are located about 64 kms from north east coast of Malaysia. Tourists can hire ferries from Kuala Besut and Tok Bali to reach these islands. Tourists can also take flights from Kualalumpur to Kota Bharu and from there they have to take a speed boat or a ferry to reach the Perhentian Islands.
