Manaung is situated in the Asian continent towards the west of Myanmar in Rakhine State. It is a town located in the Kyaukpyu district of Rakhine State is an Island visited by thousands of tourists throughout the year. Manaung is at a distance of 565 km from the capital city Naypyidaw. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 18⁰51’ N and 93⁰44’ E.

History of Manaung:

Manaung was the trade route for India and during the trade many people from Bengal migrated to Burma. In the year 1762, the island witnessed the major earthquake, tsunami till the year 1881. During the year 1780 the island became the province of Arakan but during the Second World War, the island was captured by Japanese army who evacuated the island.

Ahkyaib-daw

Regarded as one of the most prestigious Buddhist pagodas in the country, it was created during the period of Emperor Ashoka from 269 – 232 B.C.
