Almaty is sited on the Asian continent in the country, Kazakhstan close to the border of the country, Kyrgyzstan towards the southeast. The place was once the capital of Kazakhstan until the year 1997. Almaty is one of the country’s biggest cities. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 43016’39” N and 76053’45” E and spans over an area of 325 km2. The place is 1700m above sea level.


Climate of Almaty:

During summer season the average temperature is 240C and in winter temperature drops to -40C.


History of Almaty:

According to Archeologists, civilization began 1000 to 900 B.C in and around the region Almaty. The region was occupied by cattle rears and farmers, as time passed it further developed into a place for learning. From the 8th to 14th century trade flourished and economy boomed in and around Almaty. Trade and commercial activities had an adverse effect in the region of Almaty between the 15th and 18th century. During this period the Kazakh people drove the Dzungar out of the region. This was the turning point before the invasion of Russia in 1854. After the construction of the fort Verniy in the year 1854, close to the mountain, Zailiysky Alatau, the place witnessed the influx of people especially peasants from Russia settling in and around the region. The Fort Verniy was declared a town in the year 1867.

The Soviets took control of Verniy merging the entire region with Turkestan in the year 1918. Alma-Ata was for the first time in history, made the capital of Kazak ASSR which was formerly Kyzylorda. During the Second World War the region further progressed. Various establishments were seen. The region bore witnessed to the ever evolving industry such as the food industries, Light and Heavy industries.

National Museum:

National Museum is located opposite to Presidential Palace in Almaty and the museum showcase the various histories from Mongol period to present day and tourists can hire an English guide to get the brief details of the history.


 Koek Toebe:

Koek Toebe is called as Green Hill is located at the distance of 15 kms from the city and can be reached by bus or taxi. Green Hill is renowned for its stunning beauty and majority of populaces visit this mountain to relax at the lap of nature.


Presidential Palace:

Presidential Palace is located in the middle of the city but unfortunately tourists are not allowed visit the Palace but the surrounded region is enclosed with natural beauty and breathtaking architecture.


The 28 Panfilov Heroes Memorial Park:

This memorial park is located at the distance of 9 kms from middle of the city is devoted to men who died on battlefields of the Second World War against Nazi fascism and an ancient and Orthodox Church is located in the park which was constructed in the year 1904.
