Thandwe is situated in Asian continent towards the west of Myanmar in the Rakhin State. Thandwe Town in Thandwe District and is at a distance of 425 km from the capital city, Naypyidaw is popular for its beaches. Thandwe district spans over a total area of 9,799km2. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 18028’04.06” N and 94022’05.38” E.

During summer season the average temperature is 350C and in winter temperature drops to 120C, as it has tropical monsoon climate and warm throughout the year.

 

History of Thandwe:

During ancient times, Rakhine State was known as Arakan and Thandwe was the capital city. Fishing was the main occupation of the people in this town before the arrival of the British in the region. After the arrival of the British the region underwent a major marine time development such as the construction of a seaport. Rice cultivated in Rakhine state was sold to European traders who exported these goods along with other precious goods to foreign countries. Many battles were fought in this region before and during the British Rule, from the period 1784 till 1939. In the year 1948, Myanmar was free from the British rule. 1948 marked the era of an independent Myanmar country.
