Yambol or Jambol is the capital city of Yambol Province situated in the southeastern Bulgaria at an elevation of 114 meters, around 300 km east of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Yambol is home to two municipal centres, one is the Tundzha Municipality and another is the Yambol Municipality.

There are several theories about the foundation of Yambol; one theory claims that, Philip II of Macedon was the founder of Yambol, founded as an Ancient Greek polis. According to another theory, Roman Emperor Diocletian was founder of Yambol in AD 293 with name Diospolis and after 4 to 5 modifications; finally it was changed to Yambol.
