History of Isla Mujeres:

Isla Mujeres was blessed to Ix Chel, the goddess of childbirth, during Pre-Columbian periods. Spanish reached Isla Mujeres during 16th century and due to the several figures of goddesses, Spanish named it as Isla Mujeres.

Isla Mujeres is located around 15 km from the mainland of Mexico and is connected with mainland only boat services.

Isla Mujeres has no standard airport, so tourists need to have charter flight to reach Isla Mujeres from the mainland. The nearest airport to Isla Mujeres is Cancun International Airport which is around 35 km away.

It takes around 70 pesos from Cancun to Isla Mujeres by ferry and Ultramar Ferry is prominent ferry operator providing services from 5AM until 9PM every half hour from Puerto Juarez and it takes around 15 minutes.
