Fier is a city in the Fier district and county in Albania, located on the southwest part of the country and a significant industrial city on the banks of River Seman bounded by marshland and the city is hub to oil bitumen and chemical industries and tourism also plays major role in the city. Fier spans across total area of 307 square miles (795 square kilometers) and situated at an elevation of 65 feet (20 meters) above the sea level and lies at the distance of 112 kilometer from the Tirana, capital of the Albania.

Fier is surrounded by Topoje, Roskovec, Patos, Frakull, Novosele, Kolonje and Ballsh towns and coordinates are 40.7167° N, 19.5500° E.

 

History of Fier:

The word Fier was derived from the Italian word Fiera which means trade fair in English and it was the major trading hub during the 14th and 15th centuries and the permanent settlement was established in the 1864, by the order of local governor Kahreman Pasha Vrioni and the city was designed by French architect and city later flourished as trading center in the country.

 

Tourism in Fier:

Fier is a major industrial city in the country and there are few tourism places in the city where one can come across the history of the city in history museum of Fier and there are two major festivals organized in the city known as Apollon International Theater Festival and Fieri International Film Festival which is visited by thousands of people from all over the country.
