Bansko is a tourist favorite town situated in the Blagoevgrad province of Bulgaria at an altitude of 927 meters, around 58 km from the provincial capital, Blagoevgrad and 155 km from the national capital, Sofia. It is the site of a prominent ski resort that draws domestic tourists as well as tourists from the different countries of Europe.

Bansko is located at the foot of the Pirin Mountains towards the southwestern part of the country between latitude 41°50′ in the north and longitude 23°30′ in the east.

 

History of Bansko:

There are several theories about the foundation of Bansko, one theory states that, Bansko was founded by the people of Dobarsko village. According to another theory, an Italian painter founded Bansko with name ‘Ciociolino’. The first Protestant church in Bulgaria is the Bulgarian Evangelical Church Community which was established on 6th August 1868 in Bansko.
