Heraklion is a capital and the largest city on the Crete Island, Greece and spans an area of 120 kilometers (46 square miles) and situated at highest elevation of 33 meters (108 feet) above the sea level. History of Heraklion:

Heraklion was established by Saracens in 824 and constructed the moat around the region to protect them and Byzantine captured the region around 961 and constructed various monuments and buildings but the region was burned to ground but soon reconstructed and taken over by Greek who controlled the city for around 243 years. Political rule was established during the Venetian Era in 1204 and Ottoman Empire captured the Heraklion in Cretan War (1645-1669) and ruled for 21 years.
