Chur is a small city in the Plessur district in Graubunden Canton in Switzerland. Chur is historical and pleasant city surrounded by mountains and rivers and agriculture and tourism are the main industries in the city. Chur spans an area of 28.09 square kilometers (1,946 feet) above the sea level and lies at average altitude of 593 meters (1,946 feet) above the sea level and bank of River Rhine and identified as the oldest cities in Switzerland. Chur is situated at the distance of 245 kilometers from Bern, capital of Switzerland and coordinates are 46.8500° N, 9.5333° E.


History of Chur:

According to the records, it is believed that the Chur region was inhabited around 3900-3500 BC by Pfyn culture and Roman Empire captured the region around 15 BC and during 4th century Chur became home to the first Christian bishopric in the north of Alps. Chur was the important region for many rulers and population of the region flourished during 13th century and Three Leagues established the revolution to Chur’s autonomy and in the year 1803, Chur became the capital of Graubunden Canton.

St Luzius Church:

St Luzius Church is situated at the distance of 1.5 kilometers from middle of the city and it is believed that the church was constructed during 2nd century by British King Lucius and it is one of the most visited churches in the city.


Bishop’s Palace:

Bishop’s Palace is situated around 2 kilometers in Hof 19, CH-7000 Chur is one of the main historical graceful Baroque buildings in the city and the building was constructed between 1732 and 1733 and has Bishop’s chapel and a library.


St Martin’s Church:

St Martin’s Church is situated just 10 minutes walk from city center and the church was constructed in 8th century but later renovated in Gothic style between 1476 and 1491 and has stained glass.


Fine Arts Museum:

Fine Arts Museum is one of the finest art museums in the city and has collections of more than 6000 works dates back to 18th century to present day by Swiss artists and situated just 15 minutes walk from middle of the city.
