Deogarh is a well known city located in Deogarh District in the Indian State of Jharkhand. It houses the major holy place of Lord Shiva ‘Baidyanath Temple’.

Deoghar is located about 278 kms northeast of state capital Ranchi and Deogarh District covers an area of 2,479 sq. km. Deogarh is located between 24.48° N latitude and 86.7° E longitude and is placed at an elevation of 254 meters. The Postal Code of Deogarh is 814112.

Deogarh District is bound by Giridih district in the west, Dumka district to the east, Jamtara district on the south, Banka district and Jamui district, Bihar in the north and northwest respectively.

 

Origin and History of Deoghar:-

The literal meaning of Deogarh in Hindi language is ‘the home of God and Goddess’.  Deogarh is popularly called as ‘Baba Dham’ and ‘Baidyanath Dham’. Deogarh came into existence as a district on 1 June 1983 by carved out from Santhal Parganas district.
