History of Karaganda:

‘Karaganda’ name is derived from the word ‘Caragana’ which is a kind of bush grown all over the region. During the Soviet rule, coal resources were discovered in most parts of Karaganda. The Soviets and the Russians exploited these vast resources. In this process the entire population in the town was made to evacuate the region and move toward the south. After the end of the Soviet rule in the year 1997, Karaganda became part of the country, Kazakhstan. From then on Karaganda began to develop in all spheres.

History of Ekibastuz:

As per the records, the Ekibastuz was in the limelight during the 19^th century. At the time, some Russians entrusted the job of discovering resources of minerals in Ekibastuz to a person named Kosym Pshembayev who hailed from Kazakh. On discovering coal in the region, extraction of coal started. Later the mines were sold to a business person of British origin. In the year 1899, the Ekibastuz region witnessed the setup of rail links in the region. The entire region was deserted during the Russian Empire Revolution and the two World Wars. After the end of the Second World War a team was created to make the town, Ekibastuz in the year 1948. The opening of coal mines in Ekibastuz on December 1954 proved an important part in the development of the region. Various establishments sprung in Ekibastuz. The place, Ekibastuz achieved the township status during the Soviet rule in the entire region of Kazakhstan in the year 1957 on 12 July.

History of Atyrau:

As per historians, there existed a fort in 1645 on the banks of the Yaik River made from wood. The fort was built by a trader by name Gury Nazarov who hailed from Yaroslavi in Russia. Most of his trade links were tied to Bukhara and Khiva. In the year 1647, the fort was destroyed by tribes from neighboring region. With great determination the Guriev family again rebuilt the fort, with stones. Work of the fort commenced in the year 1647, after being destroyed, and was completed in the year 1662. During the period 1667 to 1668, rebels from neighboring regions attacked and conquered entire Atyrau region. Overtime, the importance of the fort was forgotten and in the year 1810 the fort was destroyed. Prior to the Soviet rule in the entire region, Kazakhstan, Atyrau was then known as Guriev. In During the year 1991, Kazakhstan became an independent country and the name of the place Guriev was changed to the existing name Atyrau.
