Canefield is the major settlement of St. Paul Parish situated on the west coast of island country Dominica, around 2 kms south of Massacre and 4 kms north of Roseau, the capital of Dominica. It is one of the commercial centres of Dominica housing two major establishments such as Harris Paints Dominica Ltd and Canefield Airport.

Geography of Canefield:

Canefield coordinates with 15°20′15″ N latitude and 61°23′25″ W longitude. It is located in the south of St. Paul Parish which is bounded by St. David in the east, St. George towards south, St. Joseph on the north.

 

How to reach Canefield?

Canefield has an airport but currently not served by any airlines. Due to this, tourists can reach Melville Hall Airport located about 41 kms northeast of Canefield, operated by both charter and scheduled flights from and to many Caribbean and other region locations such as Sint Maarten, Sint Maarten, Saint Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, San Juan, Porlamar, Anguilla, Montserrat and Saint Barthelemy.

The major airlines that serve Melville Hall Airport include BVI Airways, LIAT, Seaborne Airlines and Conviasa.

Canefield hasn’t developed road infrastructure, although some private bus companies operate mini bus services between the airport and Canefield.

Dominica Museum is a national museum of Dominica featuring a large collection of photographs and artifacts that related to the history, culture, archeology and geology of Dominica. It also features old musical instruments and specimens of birds and fishes. Dominica Museum is situated in Roseau.

 

Canefield Airport:

Canefield Airport is one of only two airports of Dominica located short distance away from the town centre. Its construction began in 1979 and presently it draws tourists for its unique construction.
