Sokode is the capital city of the Centrale Region of Togo, located in the heart of the country. It is the 2nd largest city of Togo, situated around 400 north of the national capital, Lome. Sokode is a prominent city, well known for its Kotokoli festival ‘Gadao-Adossa-Kosso’ which draws people from all around the country in a large number. Located between the rivers of Mo and Mono, Sokode experiences a tropical climate with dry season (November – March) and rainy season (April – October) and it receives an annual rainfall between 1,200 and 1,500 millimeters.

 

History of Sokode:

Sokode began to develop in pre-colonial times and with the arrival of Europeans in the 19th century, Sokode geared up towards becoming one of the commercial centres of Togo. Villages surrounded Sokode during the colonial period now have turned as the neighborhoods of the city.

 

How to reach Sokode?

There is an airport in Sokode but flights are not regular. So international tourists are needed to reach Lome–Tokoin Airport first and afterwards they can choose bus or rental car to get Sokode. Lome–Tokoin Airport is located around 340 km from Sokode and operates flights from Casablanca, Brussels, Paris, Niamey and many global cities. There are both luxury and general buses plying between Sokode and Lome every day.
