Edina is a town situated in the Grand Bassa County in the African country Liberia. It lies on the coastline of the country where the St. John River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Edina is located around 6 km north of the county capital Buchanan and 110 km southeast of the national capital, Monrovia. Edina got its name from Edinburgh in Scotland as Edinburg aided for the foundation of what is today’s Edina. Edina is geographically positioned between 05°55′30″ N latitude and 10°04′38″ W longitude.

 

History of Edina:

Edina originated as a colony of the American Colonization Society in the year 1932.  It was one of the original settlements of today’s Liberia being part of the Commonwealth of Liberia’s constitution formed in 1931under the American Colonization Society. Edina was also noted as the hometown of Joseph James Cheeseman, 12th President of Liberia.

Roberts International Airport is the closest major airport to Edina, located around 85 km from the centre of Edina city. The airport receives flights from/to New York, Nairobi, Casablanca, London and Brussels.
