During the Pre-colonial period, this place witnessed the rise and fall of the Pallavas, Cholas and Vijayanagar rulers. The Pallavas reign existed from the 3^rd century to the 9^th century. The fall of the Chola dynasty witnessed the rise of the power of Vijayanagar Empire during the 14^th century. In the 17^th century the British invaded the shores of Kanchipuram and defeated the Vijayanagar Empire. They had the entire place under their control. The year 1947, marked the end of the British Raj and the beginning of India Independence. After Indian Independence the place began to witness the rise of many industrial establishments.
