Toluca is the capital city of Mexico State and the seat of Toluca municipality in Mexico, about 65 km from Mexico City. It is the 5th largest city in terms of population in Mexico. Toluca is the industrial capital of Mexico with numerous industrial parks such as Parque Industrial Lerma, Corredor Industrial Toluca and Parque Industrial Exportec II.

 

Geography of Toluca:

Toluca is geographically placed between 19°17′33″ N latitude and 99°39′25″ W longitude at an elevation of 2667 meters. The municipality of Toluca covers an area of 420.14 sq. km.

 

Etymology of Toluca:

Toluca was named Nepintahihui, when it was established by the Matlazincas. The present name is taken from Nahuatl language word Tolocan, means ‘place of Tolo’. Its name was changed from Tolocan to Toluca, after the conquest of Spanish and Toluca was formed as a city on May 19, 1522.

 

Connectivity to Toluca:

Toluca is served by its own airport, operated by many Mexican and USA airlines including Spirit Airlines, Aeromexico Connect and Aeromar. Tourists are needed to take taxi or car to reach downtown Toluca, because airport is 8 km away from the city centre.

The bus station of Toluca is one of the largest in Mexico served by regular bus services. There are around 5,000 taxis serving Toluca city and generally charges 30 pesos for local travel.
