Cayenne is the capital city of French Guiana department of French in South America is situated on the banks of the Cayenne River on the Atlantic Ocean and economy of the city depends on industries and sugar refineries. Cayenne people follow diverse culture and the city is renowned for annual carnival which starts with the arrival of Vaval on the first Sunday after the New Year Day and visited by thousands of tourists from all over the department. Cayenne covers an area of 206.9 square kilometers (79.9 square miles) and coordinates are 4.9227° N, 52.3269° W.

 

History of Cayenne:

Cayenne was established by Spanish explorers but did not settle in the region due to hot climatic conditions but in the year 1604, French established the settlement in the region but it was destroyed by Portuguese. In the year 1643, French re-established the colony in Cayenne but destroyed again but in 1664, French founded the permanent settlement at Cayenne. The city population was increased due the immigration of the people from West Indies and Brazil.

Cayenne is colonial city and most of the official buildings are located in the city and along the Coast there are many beaches and aquatic sports are held along the beach.
