Grenada is an island country located towards the southeastern Caribbean Sea, surrounded by Trinidad and Tobago in the southeast, Venezuela in the southwest, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the northeast. St. George’s is the capital and largest city and East Caribbean dollar is the currency of Grenada.

Due to the larger production of nutmeg and mace, Grenada is popularly called as ‘Island of Spice’. Endangered ‘Grenada Dove’ is the national bird of Grenada.


Geography of Grenada:

Grenada spans over an area of 344 sq. km. and coordinates with 12°03′ N latitude and 61°45′ W longitude. Grenville and Gouyave are the two major towns of Grenada after the capital city St. George’s.


History of Grenada:

The history of Grenada dates back to 1649, when the French settled on the island of Grenada as a first European who conquered it completely in 1654 and ruled until 1762, when it was captured by the British during the Seven Year War. Grenada finally was declared independent on February 7th, 1974 under the chiefdom of Eric Gairy, nearly 200 years rule of British.

Black people form the majority of Grenada’s population, followed by mixed Black-Europeans and European- East Indians. English is the official language of Grenada and widely communicated languages are Grenadian Creole English and Grenadian Creole French.

The Grenada National Museum:

The building of the Grenada National Museum was initially established in 1704 by French during the colonial period, later British used it for many purposes such as women prison, warehouse and hotel. It was officially inaugurated as a national museum in 1976 and it exhibits about the history of Grenada. It is open from 9:00am–4:30pm (Monday-Friday) and 10:00am– 1:30pm (Saturday).


Grenada Waterfalls:

Grenada hosts many prominent waterfalls that are frequently visited by tourists from all around the world for their eye catching beauty and the major waterfalls include Tufton Hall Waterfall, Concord Waterfalls, Annandale Waterfall, Honeymoon Waterfall and Seven Sister Waterfalls.
