Sarajevo is the largest and capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina and located in the south central part of the country. Sarajevo spans an area of 141.5 square kilometers (54.3 square miles) and lies at an altitude of 518 meters (1,699 feet) above the sea level and in the center of Dinaric Alps and surrounded by five mountains and heavily forested hills and River Miljacka flows through the city. Sarajevo economy widely depends on tourism industry and small business in the city and visited by thousands of tourists around the world. Sarajevo coordinates are 43.8476° N, 18.3564° E.

 

History of Sarajevo:

Sarajevo is one of the oldest settled regions in Europe and during the Middle Ages it was the division of Bosnian province of Vrhbosna. Sarajevo prospered during the rule of Ottoman who constructed the buildings, administration offices, mosques and developed the colonies. The town was burned to ground during the Great Turkish War in 1697 and city was completely destroyed except few churches and mosques and later Ottoman reconstructed the city and was the major administrative hub by 1850.
