History of Philipsburg:

Arawak people were the first settlers of Sint Maarten and Christopher Columbus visited the island on 11th November 1493. A Scottish captain in the Dutch navy, John Philips was the founder of Philipsburg in 1763. Fort Amsterdam and Fort Willem are the two major historical identities of Philipsburg.
