History of Houston:

Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen from New York purchased the land in Houston in the year 1836 and named the area after Sam Houston. In the year 1837, Houston was decided merger with James S. Holman, the first mayor of the city. Houston became the prominent hub for commercial and railroad for the export of cotton. A hurricane destroyed the city in the year 1990 and later in the same year oil was discovered in the Spindletop oil field and port of Houston was established in the year 1914 and population gradually increased in the city.
