Singapore name is derived from Malay word “Singapura” meaning Lion City. Sumatra Srivijayan Rulers were the first settlers to inhabit in Singapore in 2nd century A.D. Singapore was part of Johor Sultanate between 16th and 19th century followed by Portuguese rule in the year 1613 A.D. The British landed in Singapore in 1824 and were ruling the place until 1945 when it was attacked by Japanese Army forces. But again the British repossessed Singapore in the same year after defeating the Japanese forces until in the year 1963 when Singapore attained its freedom from British rule.
