Johor is one of the fastest developing states in Malaysia situated on the southern point of the country and Johor Bahru being its capital city. Johor shares its boundaries with Pahang in the north, Malacca and Negeri Sembilan in northwest and Singapore towards south covers a total area of 19210 sq kms and coordinates with 1.29’ degree North Latitude and 103.46’ degree East Longitude.

 

Johor Meaning & History:

The word Johor was derived from Arabic word “Jauhar” referring to gem or a jewel. Johor was ruled by Sultanate of Johor during 16th century, until the Portuguese invaded the region around 1511 A.D. In the 18th century Johor was ruled by Bugis of Sulawesi, but in the 19th century a major rivalry between the two rulers dominated the scene. During the Second World War, Johor was the last city to fall prey in the hands of Japanese who attacked the region.

Mee rebus is another local menu made out of mixture of flour, salt and eggs. Satay is another popular dish from Johor made from marinated meat and chicken dipped in peanut sauce.
