Taloqan is situated in Takhar Province in north Afghanistan situated at a height of 2874 feet above sea level. Majority of the population in Taloqan consists of Tajiks who form approx 60% followed by Uzbeks (32%) and the rest includes Pashtuns and Turks. Taloqan is bound by Badakhshnan, Kunduz, Baghlan and Panisher Provinces and coordinates with 36.43’ degree North Latitude and 69.31’ degree East Longitude.

History of Taloqan:

Formerly Taloqan was called as “Taikhan” by famous explorer Marco Polo who visited the place during 1275 A.D. due to the presence of many corn fields and corn markets. Another European traveler and explorer Bento De Gois paid a visit to Taloqan in the year 1603 A.D. Taloqan was under the captivity of Talibans who had taken control over the place for several years until the year 2001 it was liberated from the clutches of Taliban rule.
