Rio de Janeiro is the capital city of Rio de Janeiro state and second largest city in Brazil. History of Rio de Janeiro:

Rio de Janeiro was established by Portuguese in the year 1565 to defeat the French who exported the woods and goods from Brazil and colonial forts in the city was constructed. French and Portuguese fought for nearly 10 years to rule the Brazil but later both abandoned the region. In the year 1720, gold, diamond and ore were discovered in the region by Portuguese Empire and in the year 1763, Rio was made the capital of Brazil. Brazil became independent in the year 1822.
