La Massana got its name from the Latin name ‘Mattianam’ which means ‘variety of apples’.

There is no airport and railway station in La Massana but it houses a heliport, served by commercial helicopters.

The nearest major airport to La Massana is Aéroport International de Toulouse Blagnac, located in Blagnac in France with connection to most of the major European locations including London, Frankfurt, Dublin and Amsterdam. There are bus services available between airport and La Massana and also service is extended to Barcelona in Spain.
