Hillsborough is the largest town as well as the administrative centre of Carriacou Island, a part of Grenada. It is home to five government schools and numerous tertiary institutions as well as the banks of Carriacou.

 

Geography of Hillsborough:

Hillsborough coordinates with 12°29′ N latitude and 61°28′ W longitude at an altitude of 6 meters. It experiences a tropical wet and dry climate with wet season from June through December and dry season from January through May.

 

History of Hillsborough:

Hillsborough was visited by a Scottish soldier and politician, Sir Ralph Abercromby in 1796 to launch an attack on the Spanish forces. It is also the site of Carriacou National Museum and its building was earlier used as cotton gin mill.

Hillsborough is served by Lauriston Airport with frequent flights to Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport, catered by SVG Air. Lauriston Airport is located 2 kms away from the heart of Hillsborough.
