History of Famagusta:

Famagusta was the small fishing village and settlement was established in the city around 300 BC and during the Lusignan rule from 1192, the village developed into a town and due to its natural harbor, population of the region grew gradually. The region was sight for war between Venetian and Ottoman 1571 lasted for 13 months which resulted in killing of more than 50,000 men and later surrendered to Ottoman and they ruled the region until the year 1878. Before the invasion of British, the town was inhabited by Turkish and Greek population and British established the administration base between Turkish and Greek quarters and port was used for trading purpose. After the independence in the year 1960, the city flourished both culturally and economically and island enjoyed the lower tax rates compared to other United Kingdom Nations.

Cathedral of St. Nicholas:

Cathedral of St. Nicholas is situated in the Famagusta city was constructed during the rule of Venice but later the church was converted into Mosque and name it has Lala Mustafa Pasa Mosque, during the rule of Ottoman and the mosque was named after the Lala Mustafa Pasa, who fought against the Venetian ruler.

 

Palm Beach:
