Obuasi is a town belonging to the Ashanti Region of Ghana, located around 60 km south of the regional capital, Kumasi and 200 km northwest of the national capital, Accra. Obuasi is well known for its god mining activities, dominated by the Obuasi Gold Mine, which is one of the 10 largest gold mines in the globe. Obuasi is the hometown of the eminent soccer player, John Mensah.

Len Clay Stadium and AGA Hospital are the two major landmarks of Obuasi. Tourist attractions of Obuasi are mainly gold mines and also the town houses a world class golf course. Obuasi lies around 100 meters above sea level and coordinates with 06°12′00″ N latitude and 01°41′00″ W longitude.

The Kumasi Airport is the closest airport to Obuasi, situated around 70 km away and operates flights only from Accra. So it is advised for visitors to reach Kotoka International Airport in Accra first and then take bus or taxi from there to Obuasi. The Obuasi Gold Mine is owned by AngloGold Ashanti Company. It is situated in Adansi North District, in the vicinity of the town of Obuasi. It can be visited by a guided tour organized by the Public Relations Directorate of AGA.

 

AGA Hospital:

The AGA Hospital is the most important hospital in Obuasi, operated by Anglo Gold. This hospital is recognized as the place of many successful critical surgeries.

 

Golf Course in Obuasi:

Manhyia Palace Museum:

The Manhyia Palace Museum is located in Kumasi, around 80 km away from Obuasi. The palace was originally constructed as a residence for King Asantehene Prempeh I during the British rule in Ghana, in the year 1925. The museum exhibits artwork and artifacts dating from the Asante kings. It is open from 9 AM to 5 PM.
