Manvar is a place situated between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur in Rajasthan state which is known for yellow deserts and sand dunes. Manvar is well known for Indian desert life, culture, wildlife and breathtaking landscape beauty. It offers the tourists one of the memorable desert experiences in this part of the world.

Tourist attractions in and around Manvar:

Jaisalmer Fort:

This is one of the spectacular forts built in the year 1156 A.D. by Rajput ruler Jaisal situated over the Trikura hill. The fort is visited by many local as well as international tourists.

Jain Temples:

The Jain temples located in Jaisalmer are one of the oldest temples dating back to 12th century. The temples are known for their archeological and religious importance and are dedicated to various Jain Thirthankaras. There is also a library located within the temple premises where one can find some rare manuscripts and inscriptions.

Desert National Park:

This is one of the largest national parks of India covering a total area of 3161 sq kms and was opened in the year 1980. The national park has many endangered species of animals like Indian Bison, Gaur, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Blackbucks, Chinkara, wild boar, bear etc. Many tourists visit this park which also has a wildlife safari ride within the park.

Bada Bagh:

Bada Bagh also called as Big Garden in Hindi is located about 6 kms from Jaisalmer which has a tank and a dam. One of the star attractions of the garden is the presence of a huge pillar measuring 1200 feet in length and 350 feet in width.

Patwon-ki-Haveli:

This is only of its kind Haveli to be erected in Jaisalmer which is basically a cluster of five havelis which was built in the year 1805 that attracts large number of visitors all round the year.

Government Museum:

The museum was incorporated in the year 1984 which has large collection of marine life and fossils. The museum also contains some rare sculptures, artifacts and prehistoric coins dating back to 12th century.

Mool Sagar:

Mool Sagar is about 8 kms from Jaisalmer is an ideal summer retreat that comprise of a garden and a tank. There is also a temple of lord Shiva located near the Mool Sagar.

Tazia Tower:

This five storey structure located near Badal Palace is well known for elegent and delicate designs, minarats and true workmanship having open courtyards and balconies.

Amar Sagar Lake:

The lake is located 7 kms away from suburbs of Jaisalmer that was built during 17th century that contains a lake and an oasis. It is popular tourist destination near Jaisalmer.

Gadsisar Lake:

This artificial manmade lake was built around 14th century by Maharwal Gadsi and the lake used to be the main source of water during that time. There are many temples and shrines located on the banks of the lake and the lake also attracts many rare species of birds that come for migration.

Shantinath temple:

This is one of the 7 Jain temples built during 16th century dedicated to 24 Jain Thirthankaras which are carved elegantly and shows wonderful artmanship.

Transport & Link to Manvar in Rajasthan:

Manvar is well connected by road and rail modes of transport as plenty of state owned and private buses ply between Manvar and Jaisalmer at frequent intervals. Jodhpur is about 173 kms and Jaisalmer is located at a distance of 170 kms from Manvar. The nearest railway station is Jodhpur Railway Station where several mail and express trains arrive and depart on daily basis. Jodhpur Airport is approx 173 kms from Manvar.

Best Season to visit Manvar:

Manvar can be visited all round the year, but the best time to visit the place is during the months of October to February where the weather remains cool and pleasant. The temperature during winter does not exceed beyond 30 degrees and minimum temperature hovers around 15 degrees. Manvar faces severe hot summers with maximum temperature exceeding over 45 degrees during peak season accompanied with sand dunes and dust storms.
