Charles III William, Margrave of Baden-Durlach was the founder of Karlsruhe, founded on June 17, 1715. Karlsruhe Palace was also constructed during the foundation of city.

Karlsruhe is served by Baden-Airpark located about 40 km from the heart of Karlsruhe. Ryanair is a low-cost carrier serving Baden-Airpark with cheap flights to major European locations.
