History of Vyborg:

Vyborg was populated by the Balto Finnic tribe and was the main trading hub on the Vuoksi River and later occupied by Novgorod and Sweden. First castle in the town was constructed in 1293, by Marshal Torkel Knutsson and battle was fought between Sweden and Novgorod to capture the castle and later it was captured by Sweden. Vyborg was ruled by Sweden for several years and they gave importance to trading and formed the government in the region. Vyborg developed as major trading center during 19th century and main trading was carried out with the eastern part of Finland and later captured by Finland and after the Winter War in 1944, Vyborg was conquered by Russia.
