Comilla is a well known city sited on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Comilla District in Bangladesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Comilla District which occupies an area of 11.47 sq. km. Comilla is situated about 95 km away towards southeast to national capital Dhaka and 152 km away from Chittagong. Comilla City is located between 23.4583° N latitude and 91.1833° E longitude.

Brahmanbaria District shares its borders with Comilla in the north, Noakhali District towards south, Munshiganj District on the west, Tripura of India towards east, Narayanganj to the northwest and Lakshmipur towards southwest.

Comilla is well known for cottage industries and Comilla Export Processing Zone. Apart from the industries, Comilla is home to educational institutions like Comilla Modern High School, Comilla Polytechnic Institute and Comilla University.

 

History of Comilla:

Comilla has a strong historical background. Deva dynasty ruled Comilla from 8th century to 11th century. British East India Company conquered Comilla in 1765.
