Sarchu is situated in Leh-Manali Highway bound by Himachal Pradesh in south and Ladakh in the north is positioned at an elevation of 4290 meters above sea level. Sarchu is located on the banks of Tsarap Chu river and has the presence of Indian army camp deployed at the borders. It coordinates with 32.89’ degree North Latitude and 77.53’ degree East Longitude.

Tourist attractions in and around Sarchu:

Sarchu Camping:

This is one of the best places to be in this part of the world as it is well known for Himalayan snow capped mountains, rivers, glaciers, camping. Tourists can also undertake adventurous sporting activities like trekking, hiking, rock climbing, river surfing and paragliding.

Tsarap River:

Tsarap river provides an ideal spot for tourists as it is well known for rivers, melting glaciers, snow covered mountain peaks and provides option for hiking, trekking, paragliding and surfing.


Hemis is located 40 kms away from Leh known for snow covered mountains, Hemis National Park and ancient Buddhist monasteries. It is highly visited tourist spot in Leh thronged by many local as well as outside visitors.


Leh is situated on the banks of river Indus which is attracted by tourists who visit the place from nook and corner of the world known for their scenic beauty and majestic landscapes. Sun Temple:

This is one of the most famous temples located in Ladakh dedicated to sun god also known as Bhaskar. The temple was built by king Lalitaditya and draws many devotees and visitors during Makarasankranti.

Shanti Stupas:

The stupas narrate the life incidents and culture of lord Buddha which are carved out beautifully and is a very important tourist spot in this part of the city.

Pangong Lake:

Pangong Lake is one of the natural lakes located in Ladakh where the tourists can spot many species of migratory birds that flock the lake during time of migration.

Hemis Monastery:

Best Season to Visit Sarchu:

The best time of the year to visit Sarchu is during months of June to October as the weather remains pleasant and favorable for the visitors. One can also visit Sarchu during summers as the place remains cool with maximum temperature hovering around mid 20 degrees. It is not advisable to visit the place during months of winter from November to February because the region experiences severe snowfalls and landslides. At times the minimum temperature drops to less than -20 degrees which makes Sarchu most unfavorable for the tourists during this point of time.
