Warangal also called as Orugallu is one of the biggest cities in Andra Pradesh State positioned at an elevation of 302 meters. It is the district headquarters of Warangal District situated about 144 km northeast of state capital Hyderabad. Warangal covers an area of 493 sq. km. and is located between 18.0° N latitude and 79.58° E longitude.

Medak district touches the border of Warangal District in the west, Khammam district to the east, Nalgonda district towards south, Karimnagar district on the north and Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh towards northeast.

History of Warangal:

The literal meaning of the earlier name of Warangal was ‘Orugallu’ is ‘one stone’. Kakatiya dynasty ruled Warangal from 12th century to 14th century. Warangal was also ruled by Mughal Dynasty, Delhi sultans and British East India Company.
