Mehsana is situated in Mehsana district in the Indian state of Gujarat at an elevation of 266 feet above sea level. Mehsana has a literacy rate of 84% and Guajarati, Hindi being the main spoken languages of the residents living this part of the city. Mehsana History:

Mehsaji Chawda a Rajput of Chawda dynasty founded the city in the year 1414 A.D. by building an arc gate and a temple dedicating it to goddess Toran Devi. Mehsana was ruled by Gaekwads in the year 1902 and it became a part of Bombay State before pre-independence and in the year 1960 it merged with the  Gujarat state.

Modhera Sun Temple:

This is one of the ancient temples which is said to be 900 years old dedicated to sun god situated about 30 kms from Mehsana. The temple is famous for its wonderful architecture and workmanship which attracts many visitors all round the year.

Monuments of Vadnagar:

This is another prominent tourist attraction near Mehsana which is known for Buddhist monasteries and antique articles dating back to 2nd century A.D. The monasteries have 9 stupas or the cells which is built in such a way that it forms a swastik design. Vadnagar is situated on a hillock and other attractions include Hatkeshwar Mahadev temple, Sharmista Lake, Jain temples, Tana Riri Garden and Deri, Gauri Kund, Khokha Ganapati, Nagdharo and Nag temple.

Taranga and Kumbharia Jain temples:

These Jain temples are about 40 kms from Mehsana built in 12th century A.D. by Vimal Shah. The temple has idols of Jain Thirthankaras and is built using white marbles and stones. The temples are located on the top of Taranga Hills and are very popular tourist spots near Mehsana.

Dharoi Dam:

Dharoi dam is built in the year 1978 across river Sabarmati and is a major source of water supply for irrigation and drinking in Mehsana district. The place is also ideal for picnics during weekends.

Poshina:

Poshina is situated at a distance of 18 kms from Ambaji known for tribal culture and tribal tradition. The region is famous for its cuisine and the guests are allowed inside the kitchen premises to get a hang of traditional cooking.
