Oistins is a coastal town located towards the southern part of Christ Church Paris in the island country of Barbados. It is situated about 11 kms from the national capital, Bridgetown and is home to many historically important structures of the country such as Christ Church Parish Church, earlier Barbados Coast Guard station and Christ Church Hospital.

There is usual traditional fish fry party arranged on every Friday night of the week, participated by both locals and tourists in large numbers. Sometimes it is arranged on Saturday night too.

Oistins coordinates with 13°4′ N latitude and 59°32′ W longitude.

 

Etymology of Oistins:

It is believed that, Oistins takes its name from the former landowner of this area, Austin’s and later it was changed as Oistins.

Oistins is situated around 5 kms away from the closest airport Grantley Adams International Airport which has scheduled flights to and from New York and Miami in USA, Toronto in Canada, London in UK, Frankfurt in Germany and most of the major Caribbean destinations such as Antigua, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and Port of Spain. GAIA is served by British Airways, Condor, Mustique Airways, TUIfly Nordic and many prominent airlines.

Government operated buses are generally blue in color and mini-buses (yellow color) are served by private agencies. Buses are available every 10 minutes and cost B$2.00 per trip.

Christ Church Parish Church:

Present Christ Church Parish Church is located in Oistins and was construed in the year 1935. The first Parish church was built near Dover Beach in 1629, later it was vanished by heavy flood and after this incident, Parish church was construed in different locations but that were damaged by natural disasters and finally built in 1935.

 

Miami Beach:

Miami Beach is one of the best beaches of Barbados located on the south coast of Barbados, in the vicinity of Oistins town. Calm light blue water and brilliant sunset views really gives an unforgettable experience to the tourists.

 

Rockley Beach:

Rockley Beach also known as Accra Beach offers memorable swimming, windsurfing, sunfish sailing and Hobie Cat rides experiences for tourists. Also tourists can have a great lunch at Quayside Centre on the opposite of Rockley Beach.
