Chiba is the capital city in Kanto region situated about 40 kms south-east of Tokyo, is one of the busiest sea ports in this part of the country. Chiba is emerging as one of the fastest developing cities that have a presence of many industries and warehouses. Chiba holds the Guinness Book of World Record for the longest suspended monorail in the world. It covers a total area of 272.08 sq kms and coordinates with 35.36’ degree North Latitude and 140.6’ degree East Longitude.

 

Chiba-Meaning & History:

The word Chiba is derived from Japanese word meaning “thousand leaves”. The name was adopted by group of Taira community in the late Heian Era who shifted to present day Chiba. The first inhabitants or the settlers to visit Chiba were Taira Tsuneshige who settled in Chiba between 1083 A.D. to 1088 A.D followed by son who ruled the place from 1118 A.D. to 1201 A.D. In the 16th century, Hara clan dominated the region and later during Edo Era, the place was ruled by Sakura clans who took control of the region for some time. Finally Chiba became a part of Japan in the year 1992.

Kasori Shellmound:

This is supposed to be one of the largest shellmound in the world that attracts large number of tourists from across the globe.

Inage Beach:

Inage Beach is known for the first artificial beach in Chiba and one of the largest manmade beaches which attracts many tourists from all parts of the world.

Chiba Zoological Park is well known for rich flora and fauna and plenty of lush greenery. The Zoological Park has several varieties of rare trees, plants and one can find animals like red panda in plentiful in this zoological park.
