Altai is the capital city of Govi-Altai Province in Mongolia, situated about 1022 km southwest of national capital Ulan Bator. It is placed between latitude 46°22′22″ in the north and longitude 96°15′26″ in the west.

 

Geography and climate of Altai:

Altai features a semi-arid climate.  Govi-Altai Province is placed in the west of the country shares its borders with Zavkhan Province to the north, Bayankhongor Province on the east, Khovd Province towards northwest, Xinjiang, China to the southwest, Inner Mongolia and Gansu, China towards southeast and south respectively.
