West End is the oldest town on Grand Bahama in Bahamas located between 26°41′12″ N latitude and 78°58′30″W longitude. It is the capital of Grand Bahama as well as the 3rd largest settlement of Bahamas, situated on the extreme west of the island. It also called as ‘Settlement Point’ placed 10 meters above the mean sea level. West End is situated around 35 kms from another major town of the island, Freeport.

West End is famous for fishing activities and rich tourism, especially sport fishing draws a large number of Bonefish sport fisherman from the major American countries, mainly from USA supporting well for the development of the West End.

 

How to reach West End?

West End has an airport with connection to domestic locations from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm. It is situated around 35 kms from Grand Bahama International Airport in Freeport which has flights to Canadian locations such as Toronto, Halifax, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal and USA’s locations such as Charlotte, Philadelphia, Miami and Atlanta. American Eagle, Bahamasair, Sunwing Airlines, US Airways and Regional Air are the major airlines serving GBIA.

Minivans are mainly used for local travel and other options include car, motorcycle, and buggy. Sometimes small fee is charged for large oversized baggage and golf bags by taxi owners.

Peterson Cay National Park is an ideal spot for day trip and tourists can reach it by boats.
