Ushuaia is the capital city of the Tierra del Fuego province in Argentina located at an elevation of 23 meters on the southern coast of Tierra del Fuego island, surrounded by the Martial mountain range in the north and Beagle Channel towards south. Ushuaia is geographically situated between 54°48′ S latitude and 68°18′ W longitude covering an area of 23 sq. km. Ushuaia features a sub polar oceanic climate while July is the coolest month and January is the warmest month that Ushuaia enjoys.

 

History of Ushuaia:

Ushuaia was founded by Commodore Lasserre ARA on 12 October 1884. Another interesting fact is that, Waite Hockin Stirling (the British missionary) was the first European to reside in Ushuaia in the year 1869.

Ushuaia is catered by Malvinas Argentinas International Airport situated around 4 km away from the heart of the city with connections to Buenos Aires, Comodoro Rivadavia,  El Calafate, Río Gallegos, Trelew and many other Argentine cities.

There are continuous buses plying between Rio Gallegos in Santa Cruz Province and Ushuaia and ticket costs around 425 Arg pesos from Rio Gallegos to Ushuaia.

Museo Mundo Yámana is a museum which is a good spot to learn about ancient history of Ushuaia including original settlement, migration and first Europeans. It adjoins Museo del Fin del Mundo and entrance fee is 35 pesos.
