Portimao is a city situated in the Faro district in the region of Algarve in Portugal, around 70 km northwest of Faro and 280 km south of Lisbon, the capital of Faro. Portimao is a beach town offering different water sport activities like power boating, sailing, surfing and kite surfing.

 

Geography of Portimao:

Covering an area of 75.6535 sq. km, Portimao is located on the Portugal’s southern coast between 37°08′13″ N latitude and 8°32′02″ W longitude.

 

History of Portimao:

According to the archeological findings, Portimao was settled by the Cynetes people during the prehistoric period. Vila Nova de Portimao was the former name of Portimao and shortened to Portimao in 1924, becoming a town.

 

How to reach Portimao?

Portimao is served by the Faro Airport, located around 70 km away from the heart of Portimao. This airport covers almost all of the major European cities including London, Dublin, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Athens.
