Pangong is a beautiful lake positioned at a height of about 4,350 meters from the mean level of sea. It is 134 km long lake sited on the Himalayan range, sixty percent of the lake flows in Tibet and remaining forty percent in India. The lake has a total area of 604 sq. km. and about 5 km wide.

Pangong Lake is situated between latitude 33°43′04.59″ in the north and longitude 78°53′48.48″in the east. The lake is home to rare species of some small crustaceans. Also tourists can see duck, gulls, Bar-headed goose, Brahmini ducks, Kiang and Marmot over and on the lake surface. Pangong Lake is also called as ‘Pangong Tso’.

 

Connectivity to Pangong Lake:

Pangong Lake is located about five hour drive from Leh Town and also there is an inner line permit necessary to visit Pangong Lake. The permit is available at the tourist office in Leh.

Pangong Tso is situated on the Indo-Tibet border about 200 km from Leh Town, 415 Kms from Kargil and about 484 Kms from Manali. There are few Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation buses and other private buses plying between Pangong Lake and its nearby regions. Other than buses, there are plenty of tourist vehicles, Taxis and Jeeps accessible to travel in and near Pangong Lake.

The nearest railway station is Jammu Railway Station situated about 900 km from Pangong. Tourists can board trains of the main cities of the country like Bangalore, Lucknow, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Dehradun, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi from Jammu Railway Station.

Leh Airport is the closest airport to Pangong and also one can board flights from Srinagar International Airport.

General Zorawar’s Fort:

General Zorawar’s Fort also called as Riasi Fort is a historical fort and a popular tourist destination in Ladakh Region. It is located near Leh Palace and the Namgyal Tsemo Gompa. It was the residence of prominent Warrior General Zorawar Singh. The fort includes treasure of the Zorawar Singh, collection of coins and varieties of all latest stamps is located about 20 km from Leh City.

 

Hall of Fame:

Hall of Fame is a museum situated 5 km away from Leh City lies on Spituk – Kargil Road constructed in reminiscence of the heroic soldiers who lost their lives in Indo-Pakistan war. The museum comprises the photographs and life histories of courageous soldiers, Ladakhi culture, history and wildlife in the world.

The museum opens from 9 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 7 pm. The entrance fee is 50 Rupees per head.

Leh Palace:

9 storey Leh Palace was a house of the King Singge Namgyal and was constructed during the period of 17th century. It is located 2 km away from Leh Town and this beautifully built Palace can reachable within 10 minutes by Taxi or Jeeps from Leh Town. There are different entrance fees for Indian and foreign tourists. Five Rupees entrance fees for Indians and hundred rupees for Foreigners.

 

Maharana Pratap Sagar Dam:

Maharana Pratap Sagar Dam was earlier known as Pong Dam Reservoir and was named after famous fighter Maharana Pratap. It is the best viewpoint for bird watching and was announced as a wildlife sanctuary in 1983. It visited by more than 225 species of migratory birds from Central Asia and Siberia. This wildlife sanctuary is home to barking deer, sambhar, wild boars and leopards.

 

Stok Palace:

Stok Palace is one of the prime attractions of Leh placed 15 km away from Leh Town. It was constructed by King Tsespal Tondup Namgyal in the year 1825 AD and it magnetizes tourists from all over the country and also from bordering countries because of its ancient architecture. It is well known for its stunning garden and watching sunrise as well as sun set from here gives a great feel to visitors. The palace is open to visitors from 8 am to 7 pm. The entrance fee is 25 rupees per head.
